Kayla Phillips, PhD

Clinical Director

Dr. Kayla Phillips is a Licensed Psychologist (#PSY004676) in the state of Georgia. She graduated cum laude from the renowned Georgia State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology. During her time, she was selected to be a member of Psi Chi, the national honor society of psychology. She went on to pursue graduate education at Auburn University, where she earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. While at Auburn University, Dr. Phillips was a Presidential Graduate Opportunity Program Fellow and conducted research on the experiences of Black students in academia.

Dr. Phillips completed an internship accredited by the American Psychological Association at American University’s Counseling Center in Washington, DC. She provided time-limited dynamic psychotherapy to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. In addition to individual therapy, Dr. Phillips also provided group therapy for students of color, outreach presentations, and supervision services. She returned to Georgia State University to complete her fellowship year at their Counseling Center. During her fellowship, she provided long-term integrative psychotherapy, manualized group therapy for suicide survivors, and supervision services.

Dr. Phillips approaches clinical practice through a multicultural and social justice lens. Her therapeutic style is integrative and primarily grounded in feminist theory. Her goal is to help her clients reconnect to their authentic selves, honor their needs and wants, and live a life more congruent with their values. Dr. Phillips area of clinical interests includes racial trauma, women’s issues, identity development, depression, and anxiety. Outside of work she enjoys gardening, spending time with family and friends, and trying different desserts.
